[EN] Fix a high CPU temperature issue for Thinkpad X201
For the high CPU temperature, applying a thermal compound paste on the heat sink is the first solution we can think of. However, it was not really helpful to decrease the super high CPU temperature (90-95’C) of my machine. The root cause was that i5-540 (1st generation)’s Turbo boost feature, which overclocks the CPU when it has the full workload.
To disable the feature:
- Windows -> In the power management plan, you should set the both “minimum processor state” and “maximum processor state” to 99% (not 100%) so that the feature is disabled.
- Linux ->
echo "0" /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/boostor
echo "1" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/no_turbo.
Now, no more thermal throttling. :)
